Lantronix to Showcase ‘Powered-by-xPico WiFi’ Superwinch Mobile Application at SEMA 2013
Irvine, Calif. – November 5, 2013 – Lantronix, Inc. (NASDAQ: LTRX), a global provider of smart networking and communications solutions for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, today announced a joint project with Superwinch – a global leader in the manufacturing and sales of consumer and industrial winches. The companies will provide a live demonstration of their new mobile winch application, powered by xPico® WiFi® at SEMA 2013, the world’s premier automotive specialty products trade event, expected to draw more than 60,000 buyers globally. The Lantronix xPico WiFi running the Superwinch mobile application will be featured at the Superwinch booth number 31017, on November 5 through November 8, 2013 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
“The Superwinch-Lantronix mobile application should prove to be one of the highlights of the show and one of the most forward-thinking solutions in the winch market,” said Zach Bohn, vice president of sales and marketing for Superwinch. “Thanks to the power of xPico WiFi that powers ROAMâ„¢, our new application not only provides easier and more accurate winch control, but more importantly it will ultimately provide critical, real-time information on winch condition – from winch line speed, and motor temperature to total run time statistics and amperage draw – all of which enables the consumer to winch safer and also allows us to anticipate customer needs and winch downtime, and provide valuable information back to our product development team for future solutions.”
The first winch to boast support within the mobile application is the Superwinch Talon 9.5sr – a 9,700 pound sealed vehicle recovery winch assembly. Prior to the Lantronix solution, winch controls were historically limited to handheld joystick controllers reminiscent of early video game controllers – rugged in design, limited in both mobility (wired versus wireless) and functionality – typically providing basic ‘on / off’ and ‘forward / reverse’ capabilities.
“Much like our award-winning xPrintServer mobile printing solution, the Superwinch is yet another real-world example of the types of cutting-edge, customer-driven applications that can be designed with Lantronix products – in this case, the new xPico WiFi module,” said Kurt Busch, president and CEO for Lantronix. “From complex logistics and telematics systems, to seemingly mundane but incredibly valuable user applications, our products are helping lead the way for true machine-to-machine solutions.”
Tablet and Smartphone-enable Your Devices
Simultaneous access point and client functionality, a key differentiator for the xPico Wi-Fi module, allows the creation of its own secure Wi-Fi network for direct access as well as maintaining a Wi-Fi client connection to the existing Wi-Fi network. This enables machines to be accessed directly via smartphone or tablet without disrupting machine communications with the enterprise WLAN network.
